Why PSE is confusing — and why that’s exactly where we help
In order to sell your electrical products, for example a portable charger (power bank), to Japan, you must comply with the Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Act (PSE Act) and related regulations in Japan.
Here is what surprises most overseas manufacturers ― the PSE mark is not a “certificate”.
It is not issued or approved by the Japanese government. Under the PSE Act, the legal responsibility rests on the notifying business ― the importer, or now the overseas D2C seller itself ― to independently confirm that the product conforms to Japan’s technical standards and to affix the PSE mark.
No one hands you a stamp of approval. You build your own compliance, and you carry the legal responsibility for it. That is why the system feels difficult from outside Japan ― and why having a licensed Japanese professional at your side matters.
New electrical products are reaching the Japanese market faster than ever, and demand for PSE compliance support is growing with them.
Why I Do This
Before becoming a licensed professional, I worked at a Japanese import trading company, handling products from many countries.
Again and again, I saw the same frustrating pattern: excellent products stuck at the border of the Japanese market ― blocked by regulation, or stalled because a Japanese importer wasn’t handling the brand well.
I later qualified as an Administrative Scrivener, a licensed specialist in Japanese government procedures, and opened my own practice.
With the December 2025 amendment to the PSE Act, you no longer need to depend on a Japanese importer ― you can enter the market yourself, on your own terms.
My mission is to help outstanding overseas products reach the Japanese customers who will love them.
